He and his wife Doris have four children: Carol Holt, Ellen Decker, Sharon Lee, and Robert Gailey, all of whom are involved in ministry. Howard Culbertson teaches missions at Southern Nazarene University and helps head the universitys short-term mission trip opportunities program. While at SNU, he has been heavily involved in church-planting programs in Bulgaria, Croatia, and Slovenia as well as helping with the ministry to Haitian immigrants in Venezuela. A veteran missionary, he spent 15 years overseas (10 years in Italy and 5 years in Haiti). He holds an earned doctorate in missions from Denver Seminary.
