Emmet Fox was born in Ireland in 1886. After receiving his education in England, he moved to the United States in the early 1930s, where he began lecturing on spirituality in New York City. He quickly became one of the most influential leaders of the New Thought Movement and was a major inspiration for Bill W. and Dr. Bob, the co-founders of Alcoholics Anonymous. Fox presented his essays at the Hippodrome Theater, the Manhattan Opera House, Carnegie Hall, and the Astor Hotel. These meetings were regularly attended by several thousand people, including Bill W., his wife Lois, and many of New York Citys AA members. These essays became the basis for various books and pamphlets. Dr. Bob owned, read and recommended Foxs writings to those he worked with in the Midwest. Much of Emmet Foxs philosophy resonates throughout the Big Book. For example: Devote at least a quarter of an hour a day to prayer and meditation. Train yourself to give the first thought on wakening to God. Resolutely turn your back on the past, good or bad, and live only in the present. Forgive everybody without exception, no matter what they may have done, and . . . then forgive YOURSELF whole-heartedly. Endeavor to make your life of as much service to others as possible. Here, for the first time, is a compilation of many of the essays and booklets Emmet Fox wrote during the 1930s. You can read for yourself the words of a man who had a profound influence on Bill, Bob and the AA old-timers. Wally P. Wally P. is an A.A. archivist / historian and the author of Back to Basics and How to Listen to God. DR. Foxs work continues to make a difference in the lives of people in all faiths. We are pleased to provide the lost pamphlets so that many more people can benefit from his teachings. Tuchy Palmieri Twice born books from healing-habits.comAbout the Author:Fox was born in Ireland. His father, who died before Fox was ten, was a physician and member of Parliament.[1] Fox attended St Ignatius College, a Jesuit secondary school near Stamford Hill. He became an electrical engineer. However, he discovered early that he had healing power, and from the time of his late teens studied New Thought. He came to know the prominent New Thought writer Thomas Troward.[1] Fox attended the London meeting at which the International New Thought Alliance was organized in 1914. He gave his first New Thought talk in Mortimer Hall in London in 1928. Soon he went to the United States, and in 1931 was selected to become the successor to James Murray as the minister of New Yorks Divine Science Church of the Healing Christ. Fox became immensely popular, and spoke to large church audiences during the Depression, holding weekly services for up to 5,500 people at the New York Hippodrome until 1938 and subsequently at Carnegie Hall.[2] He was ordained in the Divine Science branch of New Thought. Foxs secretary was the mother of one of the men who worked with Alcoholics Anonymous co-founder Bill W., and partly as a result of this connection early AA groups often went to hear Fox. His writing, especially The Sermon on the Mount, became popular in AA.[3] Carl Tuchy Palmieri is the Author of the book The Lost Booklets of Emmett Fox together with Healing - Habits.com they provide published material to help people Spiritually, Emotionally and Physically.
