Conjure Wife: Terror, Evil, Witchcraft and Violence - Fritz Leiber

Descriere Conjure Wife: Terror, Evil, Witchcraft and Violence - Fritz Leiber

\n \n \n\n \nProfessor Norman Saylor considered magic nothing more than superstition. Then he learned that his own wife was a practicing sorceress. But he still refuses to accept the truth...that in the secret occult warfare that governs our lives, magic is a matter of life and death. \n \nFilmed twice, as Weird Woman (1944) and Burn Witch Burn (1961), this tale of secret witchcraft on a modern college campus is as readable today as the day it was written.\n \n \n\n \nFritz Leiber's classic story of terror\n \nCONJURE WIFE\n \nmade into the American-International movie\n \nNorman Taylor thought it was absurd for his\n \nbeautiful wife, Tansy, to believe in black\n \nmagic. He made her throw her potions, \n \ncharms and amulets into the fire. After all, he\n \nwas a college professor, a rational man who\n \ndidn't believe in superstition.\n \nThen, his troubles began ... phone calls in\n \nthe dead of night, a student who threatened\n \nhim with a gun, and a hideous gargoyle-like \n \ncreature who stalked him about the campus, \n \none whom he alone could see.\n \nSlowly, an atmosphere of palpable evil encircled\n \nhim until the truth could no longer be\n \ndenied. There were witches all around him, \n \nconniving for his soul, lusting for his body ...\n \nand he was powerless to defend himself.\n \n \n\n \nEasily the most convincing and the most frightening of all modern horror stories\n \n--Damon Knight\n
