Surrealist and Dadaist Poetry: An Anthology - Jean Bonnin

Descriere Surrealist and Dadaist Poetry: An Anthology - Jean Bonnin

\nSurrealism and Dadaism have been two of the most influential \n \nand powerful internationalist movements of the twentieth century. \n \nRevolution, absurdism, and humour fused together to create these \n \nforces of untamed creativity. Forces that rejected the rational \n \nconscious mind in favour of dream, the subconscious, \n \nsubversion, love, and hidden desire.\n \n Within these pages the reader will find the poems \n \nof both the dominant and the less well-known protagonists \n \nof Dadaism and Surrealism past and present, as well as \n \nsome poems by those who have been closely linked to both movements...\n \n \n\n \nDada came into its own in 1916 at the Cabaret Voltaire in Zurich, \n \nwhere unstructured live performance, poetry, and music were\n \ncombined to create a subversive cultural break from the \n \nstifling and destructive mores of the time...\n \nSurrealism took up the baton and developed into \n \nnot only the subversive influence that its predecessor had been, \n \nbut in addition it wished to, as André Breton put it: \n \nresolve the previously contradictory conditions of dream and reality \n \ninto an absolute reality, a super-reality, or surreality.\n \n \n\n \nNo other artistic and cultural movements have been as obdurate\n \nin their desire to change the world and to change reality -\n \nboth from without and from within... And their belief\n \nin poetry, love, revolt, subversion, juxtaposition, and dream\n \ncan be seen to be coursing through the veins of\n \nthe poems that have been chosen\n \nfor this anthology.\n \n \n\n \nIn case it is ever forgotten, this collection reminds us\n \nof the importance of poetry in the\n \nstruggle to carve out a more harmonious, \n \nradical and egalitarian future.\n \n \n\n \n \n\n \n \n\n \n \n\n \n \n\n \n \n\n
