The World is Waking Up: Poetry of Resistance from Youth Around the World - Jason Ryberg

Descriere The World is Waking Up: Poetry of Resistance from Youth Around the World - Jason Ryberg

\n \n From the beginning of time, poems have been smuggled \n \nout of prisons, exchanged on battlefields, passed from hand \n \nto hand, carved on walls, written in the margins, distributed \n \non street corners, and carried in coat-pockets overseas. \n \n Every culture and generation produce poetry in response \n \nto the injustices of its time. Deeply rooted in resilience, the \n \nenduring nature of poetry and its ability to capture the struggles \n \nof the past can serve as a sustaining force in a sea of turmoil. \n \nIf creativity is a form of protest, then the poet is the protester. \n \nPablo Neruda saw the power of poets and the remarkable \n \npotential of their words: Earth, people, and poetry are one and \n \nthe same entity tied together by mysterious subterranean passages. \n \nWhen the earth blooms, the people breath freedom, the poets sing \n \nand show the way.¹ \n \n When poems are gathered together, they form a mighty \n \nbody that is impossible to constrain, like the sea. Every time a \n \npoem touches someone's conscience, like gathering drops, it \n \ninvites the possibility for action, forming a tempest. Thus, the \n \ntransformative potential of resistance poetry can serve as a \n \npotent antidote against the injustices of the world.\n
