Descriere Solar Eclipse 1914: Selected Poems - Arseny Tarkovsky

\n \nReaders will be deeply grateful to the\n \nlate Peter Oram for giving new life to the\n \nwork of a major Russian poet who has\n \nnever been fully recognized in the English-speaking\n \nworld - even if his haunting words\n \nhave been heard in Russian by the millions\n \nwho have seen his son's film Mirror.\n \n \n\n \nArseny Tarkovsky lived through the\n \nSoviet period from beginning to end, \n \npreserving his inner independence and\n \nleaving a precious legacy of memorable\n \nlyrics that achieve a dream-like potency\n \nof suggestion. Oram's inventive and\n \nbeautifully shaped translations combine\n \nin an exemplary way poetic freedom and\n \na careful attention to the form and the\n \nsentiment of the originals.\n \n \n\n \nPeter France\n \nProfessor Emeritus, \n \nUniversity of Edinburgh\n
