\nEngage in Historical Biography at its Most Compelling \nSet in 14th century Medieval Europe, Catherine of Siena documents a path of humble servitude and devotion leading to some of the most pivotal decisions in the Christian world of that era. Nobel Prize-winning author Sigrid Undset's heartfelt biography portrays one of the most dynamic women ever to live.\n \nAt a time when it was rare for women to gain power in society, Catherine's dedication and focus drove her to play a prominent role in the Catholic Church. Recognizing her calling from an early age, she joined an informal group centered on Dominican spirituality and quickly gained notoriety as a mystic. She is well-known for influencing Pope Gregory XI to move from Avignon to Rome. She later strongly supported Pope Urban VI and remained a guiding voice in the church until her death in 1380. Catherine's exemplary faithfulness, prayer, and service to the poor gained her recognition at the highest levels of the Church, and she was called upon as a peacemaker. Recently declared the patron saint of Europe, her holiness and knowledge continue to inspire all who read her story.\n \nHaving extensively researched Medieval Europe for her seminal works of historical fiction, Sigrid Undset was uniquely qualified to study primary sources and breathe life into the biography of St Catherine. Her sensitivity to the devotional heart and unparalleled understanding of time and place is transporting as she paints an insightful portrait of this truly inspirational Christian woman. An uncommonly inspirational work, Catherine of Siena is well suited as a compelling read or a unique gift.\n \nThis book is also available from Echo Point Books in paperback (ISBN 1635619971).\n
