Erosion - Jorie Graham

Descriere Erosion - Jorie Graham

\n \nFrom Erosion: \nSAN SEPOLCRO \n \n Jorie Graham \n ? \n \n . . . . How clean \nthe mind is, \nholy grave. It is this girl \nby Piero \ndella Francesca, unbuttoning \nher blue dress, \nher mantle of weather, \nto go into \nlabor. Come, we can go in. \nIt is before \nthe birth of god. No-one \nhas risen yet \nto the museums, to the assembly \nline bodies \nand wings to the open air \nmarket. This is \nwhat the living do: go in. \nIt's a long way. \nAnd the dress keeps opening \nfrom eternity \nto privacy, quickening. \nInside, at the heart, \nis tragedy, the present moment \nforever stillborn, \nbut going in, each breath \nis a button \ncoming undone, something terribly \nnimble-fingered \nfinding all of the stops. \n \n \n Jorie Graham grew up in Italy and now lives in northern California. She has received grants from the Ingram-Merrill Foundation, the Bunting Institute, and the John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation. Her first book, Hybrids of Plants and of Ghosts (Princeton, 1980), won the Great Lakes Colleges Association Award as the best first book of poems published in 1980.\n
