Lives of the Early Martyrs - Pedro De Ribadeneyra

Descriere Lives of the Early Martyrs - Pedro De Ribadeneyra

What happened to the Apostles? How did the early Christians live? Why did the Romans and other peoples try to destroy them with such brutality? Those answers are all provided in Fr. Pedro de Ribadeneyra, SJ's Flores Sanctorum, carefully translated by Mrs. Anne Hope. Lives of the Early Martyrs not only traces the most ancient testimony to where the Apostles went, and where they won their crowns of martyrdom, but their disciples as well. It carefully elucidates the lives that the early Christians led, and how it came about that they laid down their lives for Christ. Tracing the progress of the Church from Apostolic times until after Constantine, the work brings the glory of the early Church to life, showing us why the blood of the martyrs is the seed of faith. In this work you will learn: The lives of the Apostles and their resting place; The lives of many saints, fathers, and holy women;Figures like Ignatius of Antioch, Perpetua and Felicity, to names you haven't heard of;The progress of the Church in the early centuries.Fr. Pedro de Ribadeneyra, SJ, was a 16th century Jesuit who was a great preacher, as well as spiritual writer and historian. Anne Hope was a British widow who converted to Catholicism after her husband's death, and devoted her life to works of Church History. The present volume is the fruit of her love of the Church.
