\nThe rain is falling all around, \n \nIt falls on field and tree, \n \nIt rains on the umbrellas here, \n \nAnd on the ships at sea.\n \n-Robert Louis Stevenson, A Child's Garden of Verses\n \n \n\n \nA Child's Garden of Verses (1885) by Robert Louis Stevenson is unique among the many books for children that Robert Louis Stevenson has left us. In addition to the quality of Stevenson's poetry itself, the book is characterized by the sensitivity Stevenson showed in writing on themes that are especially important to children, such as the imaginative life of the child; the loneliness of being young, and the beauty of nature.\n \n \n \nIf reading to their children or just for their own pleasure, adults may also be pleased the author has not forgotten their concerns, thoughtfully including moral reminders to children! This beautiful version includes all 65 poems published in the original 1905 edition and remarkable color illustrations by Jessie Willcox Smith.\n \n \n
