Descriere Internet, Humor, and Nation in Latin America - Héctor Fernández L'hoeste
\nHow online humor influences politics and culture in Latin America \n \n\n \nThis \n volume is the first to provide a comprehensive Latin American \nperspective on the role of humor in the Spanish- and Portuguese-language \n Internet, highlighting how the production and circulation of online \nhumor influence the region's relation to democracy and civil society and \n the production of meaning in everyday life. \n \n\n \nSeveral case \n studies consider memes, including discussions of political cartoons in \nMexico and imagery that portrays the mismanagement of natural disasters \nin Puerto Rico. Essays on Brazil examine how memes are shared on \nWhatsApp by Jair Bolsonaro supporters and how the Instagram account \nBarbie Fascionista offers memes as political commentary. Other case \nstudies consider video content, including the sketches of Argentinian \ncomedian Guillermo Aquino, the short-form material of Chilean vlogger \nGermán Garmendia, and a satirical YouTube column created by journalists \nin Colombia. Contributors also offer new methodologies for studying the \nlaughable on social media, including a model for analyzing fake Twitter \naccounts. \n \n\n \nInternet, Humor, and Nation in Latin America \n demonstrates that Internet humor can generate novel means of public \ninteraction with the political and cultural spheres and create greater \nexpectations of governmental accountability and democratic \nparticipation. This volume shows the importance of paying serious \nattention to humorous digital content as part of contemporary culture. \n \n \n\n \nContributors: \n Eva Paulina Bueno Juan Poblete Alberto Centeno-Pulido Damián \nFraticelli Juan Carlos Rodríguez Viktor Chagas Paul Alonso \nUlisses Sawczuk da Silva Héctor Fernández L'Hoeste Alejandra Nallely \n Collado Campos R.
