The Blue-Eyed Butterfly - Sharon Suskin

Descriere The Blue-Eyed Butterfly - Sharon Suskin

In the early to mid-1920s, women were forced to keep silent about domestic violence, unwanted pregnancies, or sexual abuse. When the unthinkable happened, they were hidden or sent away. If they stayed, there would be no relief from the violence or shame and no possible way out. Their only hope was to stay alive, protect those they loved, and endure. This book is based on a true story of three women who lived without shelters, support groups, crisis centers, and counselors to help them heal their troubled dreams or the scars that rooted themselves into their bodies and minds. It tells of strong-willed and determined Callie, whose mother dies giving birth to Callie's sibling, and Lillian who grows up in the mountains of North Carolina during the Great Influenza Epidemic which takes the life of her father and leaves the family to languish in poverty. It would be Lillian's love story that keeps her and Callie entwined with the third woman, Lydia, whose secrets they have sworn to keep... until the Blue-Eyed Butterfly comes.
