Origen: His Life and Teachings - Tadros Malaty

Descriere Origen: His Life and Teachings - Tadros Malaty

\nThis volume presents a rigorous examination of Origen, a foundational figure in Christian theology and biblical exegesis. Drawing on primary sources and the testimony of his disciple, Saint Gregory the Wonderworker, the book situates Origen within the intellectual and ecclesiastical debates of early Christianity.\n \n\n \nThe authors address both the high regard in which Origen was held by many early saints and the enduring controversies that have surrounded his legacy, including accusations of heresy and the subsequent excommunication by segments of the Church. The text scrutinizes the authenticity of disputed passages in Origen's writings, especially those inserted by opponents to discredit him, and highlights his insistence on careful, critical reading of theological works.\n \n\n \nOrigen's approach to biblical interpretation, marked by openness to philosophical inquiry and a commitment to theological rigor, is analyzed in the context of his time. The book also considers the broader question of how the Church engages with its own intellectual history and the complexities of doctrinal development.\n \n\n \nIntended for scholars, students, and readers of historical theology, this study offers a balanced assessment of Origen's contributions and the ongoing debates regarding his place in Christian tradition.\n
